European Parliament Bureau in Latvia | “How policymaking works in the European Union?” – opening of the 2025/2026 academic year of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools
On behalf of the European Parliament Bureau in Latvia, we organized a large-scale in-person meeting for youngsters and educators “How policymaking works in the European Union?”, thereby launching the 2025/2026 academic year of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools program.
The event allowed 350 teens and teachers from across Latvia to prepare for the new school year’s theme by learning how opinions are aligned, compromises are sought, and consensus is built among countries, the public, scientists, experts, and the media; what political culture is and what it looks like in a democracy, in the European Union, and in Latvia.
The year 2025 is a special one for the European Parliament Ambassador Schools program – it marks the program’s 10th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, we looked back at what has been achieved over the years and highlighted the accomplishments of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools, thereby inspiring both teachers and students to continue working on topics important to the European Union, especially parliamentary democracy.
Throughout the day, we involved youngsters and educators in a range of engaging activities, for example, a discussion with Members of the European Parliament, seven creative workshops, an exhibition stand operated by the German and French embassies in Latvia, group pictures in a photo booth with AI features, icebreaker and team-building games, a raffle and a bingo game with the chance to win valuable prizes. In addition, a caricaturist illustrated the day’s highlights in visualizations.
The event’s organizational work was provided in full capacity, including event branding, venue setup, creation of visual and print materials, coordination of the creative workshops, embassy stand, the discussion, the raffle, and various games, as well as technical support and cooperation with the moderator.
