"Run the Baltic Way 35"
On 23 August 1989, two million people joined hands to unite Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, demonstrating the unity of the Baltic people and their determination to fight for their independence.
To mark the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way, Rūdolfs Birnbaums from Sigulda, in summer 2024 started the "Run the Baltic Way 35" movement, committing to run the entire historic 678 kilometre route in eight days.
As a result of the communication support in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, the initiative received broad media attention throughout the Baltics. During the 8 days, various media outlets actively followed the journey of the runner. Upon arrival in Riga, Rūdolfs Birnbaums and his fellow runners were greeted and welcomed at the Cabinet of Ministers by the Prime Minister of Latvia Evika Siliņa.
The effective communication attracted several hundred runners and supporters, who joined Rūdolfs at different stages of the route to run longer or shorter distances or to simply greet the runners. Publicity activities helped to reach more than 50 media publications at the Baltic level.
